Young Billy Smithe's family carries a secret; a secret that even he
didn't know until the day a neighborhood bully disappeared into the
swamp, leaving behind only a bloody baseball as proof that he ever
existed. Billy's father knows about the secret, but he can't help;
he, too, has disappeared.
Billy realized it is up to him to save his small mid-western town from The Hunger. His friends are willing to help, but will they solve the mystery in time? Billy must meet the "man devil" in only seven days and he must be prepared to kill him. There are three items he must find to accomplish the task. A talisman, a vial containing a mysterious potion, and a crystal. Combined with the knowledge contained in an ancient diary, Billy must face his own grandfather and destroy the curse that boils within him. The lives of his father and two of his closest friends depend on his success. The "man devil" must consume raw human flesh--guilt-ridden flesh--to survive and, as the day of atonement approaches, Billy begins to feel the draw of The Hunger within himself. His father resisted the power of the curse for more than thirty years, but will his son be able to do the same? Will he be able to find the courage and the will to destroy one of his own? Marc MacLeod tells a tale of mystery, terror, and greed that goes beyond the realm of horror. It enters the soul and attacks the heart as the reader, too, becomes devoured by The Hunger. | |||||||
