"I think of songs as little demigods floating through the ether,
invisible but potent entities that bring order to the chaos of life
by flagging its precious moments . . . The link between music and
memory is universal to the human experience, and that's especially
true of that one song we hold closest to our heart, the one that
evokes our strongest memories and emotions."
So says Mark, a lover crossed by Death and subsequently raped of his wife Sarah. But Music is a powerful entity, an art form far more potent than any other, an ever-evolving creature of its own design. For Mark and Sarah, it shows itself as "Forever Lovers," the song played at their wedding to which they first danced, man and wife. But neither can know how prophetic these words, and neither, Mark especially, can prepare themselves for the motivations it will catalyze. Except Dr. William Drake, who has prepared himself for a career-changing event of this caliber his entire life and will follow-up on it at anyone's expense, perhaps even his own. Forever Lovers is a 20k word novella by Shawn James with cover photography by Nathan Combs and interior art by award-winning Russell Dickerson. It is published in the same pocket-sized format as Wicked Hollow magazine, with red, textured cardstock cover and crisp interior pages. This is the first volume of the annual novella Wicked Gluttony series, an annual supplement to Wicked Hollow, and Blindside Publishing's first book release.
"Shawn James's Forever Lovers is a provocative and heartfelt
meditation on the power and consequences of love, and deals
effectively with the reality of the dead among the living."
"Shawn James's Forever Lovers is a nicely crafted and
highly entertaining tale that is as thought-provoking and often touching
as it is horrifying. As odd as this may sound, think George Romero
meets Erich Segal. Lots of fun." | ||||||||||
