Project Pulp & Indie Points
Once upon a time your parents, your teachers, and/or your bosses told you to stop daydreaming. "There's no money to be earned in daydreaming," they said. Project Pulp's here to prove them wrong.

Meet Indie. One Indie is a good time but fifty Indies is a party.

Fall 2002 brought a giveaway program to Project Pulp where you received entries for simply ordering from the website, then also for every $10 you ordered, for ordering certain titles, etc. This giveaway program will remain on a monthly basis but will no longer be Project Pulp's primary system. Welcome to the new Project Pulp. Indie's coming with us.

Indie! The old giveaway points system will remain with some new additions, all of which are in detail below. And the points have a new name. Out with the old, generic "entries," in with Indie Points, courtesy of our new friend (seen here on the left). Every fifty Indie Points you earn pays you back a gift certificate to the Project Pulp website for 5% of your total purchases.

For example, if it took you ten orders of $25 each to reach 50 Indie Points, after that tenth order I would pay you back a gift certificate for $12.50, 5% of those ten $25 orders. Gift certificates can be used for anything available on the website, from magazines, to books, to CDs, to downloadable e-books, or toward buying an even larger gift certificate for a family member or friend. They also never expire and are provided via e-mail as a secret code so you never lose it (you can always e-mail me to have me send you the code again if you do lose it).

Why? Why would we pay you back for buying books from Project Pulp? Why would we be so ridiculous as to give you back money we could just as easily keep for ourselves? Because the small press, also known as the independent press, relies on you. But even more so than that, because we honestly believe the small/independent press is the home to the best there is in literature, poetry, non-fiction, and art. Not the major publishing houses found in your chain bookstores, but right here, from the writers, editors, publishers, and artists who don't make a living from it -- just daydream.

Buy Something
That's the first step to earning yourself an Indie Point. Every order you place with Project Pulp, no matter the amount or the product bought, will earn you an Indie by default.

Total $10
For every $10 you order, you earn another Indie. $10, one Indie. $30, three Indies, etc.

Buy a Sponsoring Title
Sponsoring Titles are books and magazines either donated to the website or offered to me at great discount for the purpose of the monthly giveaway. All sponsoring titles are acknowledged as such on their listings, on the order form with red lil' arrows such as these: ^^, or you can also get a list of them right here. For every sponsoring title in your order, another Indie for you.

Buy a Subscription
Each time you order a subscription to any magazine through the Project Pulp website, you earn yourself another Indie (not to mention the Indies you've garnered simply for ordering, another Indie if the subscription happens to be to a sponsoring title, another Indie for each $10 that subscription costs, another Indie if that magazine is on the bestseller list at the time, and the list goes on).

Monthly Promotions
Each month, Project Pulp selects a certain category of titles to feature as a promotion, whether they're selected by genre, theme, author, limited nature, or otherwise. Each month check out the promotional page and keep on earning.

Buy a Gift Certificate
Buy a gift certificate for your friend, mentor, student, lover, relative, or a complete stranger, and show them the gift of the small press. Of course, all kindness in this world is secretly selfish, right? Especially in this case, because giving to your friend will earn you several Indies. An Indie just for ordering, an Indie for buying a gift certificate, then more Indies for every $10 in value for which you buy it. Selfish, selfish.

Buy a Recent Arrival
Because each listing in the catalogue is hand scripted by only one person, meaning it sometimes takes two or more weeks for a listing to go up in the catalogues once the information for it has been received, a recent arrival page has been added to the site. Here, I'll list all the items I've received but have yet to add to the catalogue. They'll also appear on the order form sans a link. Purchase a title before it even hits the catalogues and earn yourself another Indie.

It's Dead? Indie for You!
For every issue of a now defunct magazine you buy that still sells back issues through Project Pulp, another Indie. Many of these magazines are dreadfully missed and published some fantastic work, and should not be missed just because they're not still putting out new material. A list of these poor creatures is available here.

Bestsellers = Indies
Project Pulp's bestsellers page is updated twice monthly with the bestselling titles on Project Pulp for the previous two weeks. Buy a title while it's on the bestseller list and another Indie's coming your way.

And Indies = Giveaway Entries
While Indies persist from month to month, the dilligent little things they are, each Indie you earn within any given month also translate into giveaway entries. Which means if you earn 20 Indies in January, that's also 20 entries into the January giveaway. And in February you'll still have those 20 Indies, but you'll be starting over with your entries into the February giveaway. So not only are you getting yourself closer to getting money back with each Project Pulp order, you're also entering yourself into a chance to win free magazines, books, and more!
