Project Pulp Banner Exchange
Advertising is hard to sell and spotty to buy. Will it be worth it? Am I really aiming at the right audience? How long will 1,000 impressions really last? Are the advertisements located somewhere where people are really going to pay attention?

Project Pulp will still buy advertising spots here and there intermittently as good deals or targets present themselves, but the budget is extremely limited, and nearly non-existent. Project Pulp wasn't designed to bring me money, it was designed to help the small press get its name out there, and for all of the individual publishers within it to sell their products. I think it's done a pretty good job of that.

But there are always more people out there I'd like to reach. Sales fluctuate heavily. I still get e-mails occasionally from people who have placed an order with Project Pulp after hearing about it from a friend, and they say, "I never knew this site existed. It's fantastic! How long have you been around?"

But I can't get exposure for free. I can either pay to advertise on someone else's site or in someone else's publication, or I can barter. I'll do both.

Thus, the banner exchange is now on. If you place a special HTML code on your website, Project Pulp will place a banner advertising your website in the banner rotation you see on the top of 99.5% of the pages on Project Pulp's website. You will also be given a special URL you can visit frequently to see the stats on your banner. How many times has it been exposed to a customer? How many times has it been clicked on?

The special HTML code you will be placing on your side implements another banner rotation like the one you see on the header of most Project Pulp webpages, except with different banners. It will only contain banners dealing with Project Pulp: advertisements for Project Pulp, itself, advertisements about some of the products we carry, etcetera. Most images are animations, but they aren't too large. The largest, I think, is approximately 32k, but most are in the 20k region.

So why would anyone want to buy advertising space on Project Pulp when they could do the exchange for free? The primary differences are few. 1) They don't have to reciprocate a link on their site and 2) their banner will be viewed more times. On the rotation I can alter percentages so certain banners show up in the rotation more than others. Banners given to me through a banner exchange will be viewed less frequently than those who pay for advertisement. At the same time, your banner will appear in Project Pulp's rotation for as long as you keep Project Pulp's banner on your website. Those who pay for advertisement only get to display their banner in Project Pulp's rotation for as long as their money stipulates.

If you are interested in participating in this banner exchange, please fill out the form below. You will receive an e-mail immediately after with the HTML code you will need to place on your website. Once you do that, you may e-mail Project Pulp with the banner you want placed in the advertisement. And then your banner will appear in the rotation above every Project Pulp page (including this one) until you remove Project Pulp's banner from your website.

I hope some of you will participate. If you know of any friends or associates who may be interested, please pass on word of this banner exchange offer. I'd appreciate it.

Note: I'd prefer to only exchange banners with sites that have something to do with the small press, literature, independent music, and the like. Please don't send me a banner for your site if you're a self-employed mechanic advertising your garage or a very proud pet owner advertising your happy puppy. I'm sympathetic to your cause, but I'm afraid I can't be of much help.
